FAQ

What can I expect in my first therapy session?

The first session can look different for different people, but the focus is usually to understand more about what your hopes and expectations are from therapy, to flesh out the concerns you’ve been experiencing, and to chart a tentative way forward. This might involve answering specific questions about your concerns, or be more free-floating in nature based on your needs. Both for this session and any subsequent sessions, you are encouraged to take charge of the process and explore what feels good to you!

What happens before the first session?

I will send you a quick Google form to fill out that includes demographic details, your preferred slots and timings, and some policies for you to read and agree to. After you fill it out, I will contact you on e-mail or WhatsApp (as per your preference and comfort) to schedule our first session. I also offer a free 15 minute consultation over phone call, email or text for you to learn more about the process and explore whether this will be a good fit for you.

What are the charges for therapy? Is there a sliding scale?

My charges are currently INR 2500 per hour for an individual/family therapy session, and INR 1500 for a half hour session. I do offer a limited number of sliding scale slots. If you would like to avail of one, please let me know when you reach out to me or indicate it in the Google form you fill. If sliding scale slots are not available when you reach out, I will let you know about the waitlist timeline and will offer you a slot as soon as one is available.

How long will therapy last?

Therapy can be either a long term or short term process depending on your needs and the nature and complexity of your concerns. Usually a minimum of at least 6 sessions needs to be completed in order to see change, and a conservative estimate would be between 3-6 months of therapeutic work. Some people also see a therapist for a longer period of time (a year or more), usually at less regular intervals over time (fortnightly, monthly or less). There is no fixed time period we can predict going into the process, and we will review the process together regularly to see how you’re doing and where we’re at.
